Depending on the source, one in every 10,000 to 100,000 babies are born with Poland's Syndrome.

The US population is 298,742,250
The world population is 6,515,951,459

A baby is born in the US every 8 seconds, and in the world every 4.1 seconds.

Based on those figures, there are roughly 2,987 to 29,874 people in the United States with Poland's Syndrome, and approximately 65,159 to 651,595 people worldwide.

That means:

  • A baby is born in the United States with Poland's Syndrome roughly once every 1 to 10 days.
  • A baby is born with Poland's Syndrome somewehere in the world roughly once every 12 hours to once every 5 days.

And no one know why.

The National Institute of Health Office of Rare Diseases considers a disease rare in the United States if fewer than 200,000 individuals are affected.

Population figures and rates are based on US Census Bureau and World Vital Events data as of May 16, 2006.
